The Second Annual Lowell Zumbathon, Lowell Gym, is March 13th from 2-4pm. The instructors are our very own Lindsay Jacobson, Veronica Castillo and Amy Peca. Join us for some fun and exercise all the while raising money to help the PTO. We will also have a bake sale, 50/50 raffle and the grade level gift basket auction.
Cost of the Zumbathon:
Family of 4 or more: $35
What is the grade level gift basket auction?
Each grade is assigned a theme. Parents in those grades are asked to donate an item that fits that theme or they can donate money that the grade level coordinator will collect and purchase the items for the basket. Once all the items are collected a basket is made. At the Zumbathon all the baskets are lined up on a table and people are able to write a bid for that basket (there is a sheet of paper in front of each basket). There are starting bids on each basket and at the end of the Zumbathon the highest bid wins!
We had a lot of fun doing this last year, and the parents really got into it and some really great baskets were made. People donated products, gift cards, money, experiences and so much more.
So what is the theme for my grade and some ideas of items?
PreK/K - Coffee & Tea Basket (ground coffee, loose leaf tea, gift cards, keurig machine, tea infusers, cookies and food, mugs, etc)
1st Grade - Summer Basket (cooler, lounge chair, sunscreen, sand toys, wagon, anything you would use over the summer, etc)
2nd Grade - Wine and Spirits Basket (wine, spirits, glassware, gift cards, cheese board, cheese knives, crackers and other edible items etc)
3rd Grade- Lottery Ticket Basket (lottery tickets)
4th Grade - Movie Night Basket (popcorn, candy, red box and theater giftcards, blu rays/dvds of new releases/popular movies, etc)
5th Grade - Game Night Basket (board games, Boston sporting tickets, sports memorabilia, gift cards for bowling, rock climbing, launch, etc)
Do I have to buy something?
This is a fun fundraiser we are doing and it is by no means mandatory. If you want to participate we welcome your contribution. Also if you want to participate but would rather donate money to be put towards the basket just let your grade level coordinator know.
How do I donate?
Each grade level PTO coordinator will be reaching out to their respective grades with instructions on where to donate or you may also email us a email@example.com.
Each grade level coordinator will have their own deadlines given their personal schedules and commitments. If you have something that you know you can donate immediately, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will coordinate with you.

The Watertown Community Foundation is collaborating with the Watertown Public Schools to start a conversation about the future of education in Watertown. The first piece of this is the screening of the movie 'Most Likely to Succeed', an acclaimed film about schools, and a re-imagining of what our students and teachers are capable of.
The screening is on Feb 4 at the Watertown High School auditorium - there will be an afternoon and an evening screening, with a Q&A session between, moderated by Pia Owens.
I hope you can make it - please mark your calendars and register at: https://wpsmostlikelytosucceed.eventbrite.com

Our winter box top contest has started and will end on Feb. 22nd. For those new to our box top contests, the PTO runs contests throughout the year where we collect box tops and then submit them to box tops 4 education. We then receive money back based on the number we submit. This contest is a way for parents to help the PTO raise money by clipping a small "box top" off items they have purchased.
So how does it work and what do they look like, see below:
So we will collect box tops till Feb 22nd. The class with the most will win the contest (prize TBD). Please submit the box tops in a plastic bag with your childs name, their teachers name and grade. Also please note the expiration date on the box top, they do expire and will not be counted towards your total if included. Any questions let us know!
The Watertown Education Foundation in conjunction with the three Elementary PTO’s, is hosting the 6th annual Spelling Bee on Sunday, January 31, 2016 for grades 1-5. All of the funds generated will go directly back to the respective PTOs.
The format for this Bee is different than the popular notion of a “traditional”” spelling bee --one child standing alone on a stage in front an auditorium full of people. This Bee features teams of three children either all from the same school or, teams can be comprised of children from any of our Elementary schools. The only rule is that they must be in the same grade. The team will be given words from the spelling bank that have been selected based on grade level. The team members will work together to come up with the proper spelling and one team member will write the answer on a white board. If the team is correct, they will move to the next round. Teams are knocked out after three incorrect answers.
Registration for the spelling bee is due January 15th. The form can be downloaded here.
