What is the Scholastic Book Fair?
There will be a lot of information coming out on the book fair starting in Nov. But for those not familiar, the Lowell PTO hosts a Scholastic book fair in Dec. (4-9th)We have approximately 20 cases of books (ranging from baby to adult) and other small items for sale. Last year we had over $12,300 in sales and Ms Steim received just under $7000 dollars to spend with Scholastic! All the proceeds for this fundraiser go directly to the library. Also for the second year in a row we will be hosting a public sale on Sunday, Dec. 4th. There will be a lot more information starting in Nov. so keep an eye out!!
Here is a picture (not a great one) of the library all set up for last years fair.
At our meeting last night we announced our Fall Box Top Contest (Oct. 3rd - Oct. 21st) and we got the question what is a Box Top? I forget that I, myself, was asking this same question four years ago, having no clue what they were talking about, never mind having my kid participate in a contest about them. However I was too shy to ask, so thank you to those that did last night!
A Box Top is part of the packaging on thousands of items, food, toiletries, paper goods, school supplies, and so much more (full list here). Its a small little coupon that you clip off the packaging and each one is worth 10 cents in actual money. We've been pretty successful in collecting these over the years and raising money for the PTO. The best part about this contest is that you really don't have to go out of your way to purchase items to support the program.
So What Is A Box Top, its this small little coupon below. You'll notice that there is an expiration date on it. All Box Tops have an expiration date, it's important when you are submitting these to make sure they haven't expired.
So our next contest begins in a few weeks, we will be sending a note home to remind everyone.
What you will need to do is the following; When you purchase any product be on the look out for the little Box Top coupon (sometimes on the top flap or on the bottom of a box, even vegetable cans have them). Clip it off, ensure they haven't expired and collect them till you are ready to submit. The contest is a classroom contest so be sure to include your child's name and their teachers name. That's it! Any questions feel free to email us.

Our Summer box top contest will end on Sept.12th. For those new to our box top contests, the PTO runs contests throughout the year where we collect box tops and then submit them to box tops 4 education. We then receive money back based on the number we submit. This contest is a way for parents to help the PTO raise money by clipping a small "box top" off items they have purchased.
Please submit the box tops in a plastic bag with your child's name, their teachers name and grade. Also please note the expiration date on the box top, they do expire and will not be counted towards your total if included. Any questions let us know!
So how does it work and what do they look like, see below:
