The Annual Lowell Online Auction is a month away. This is our largest fundraiser of the year, last year raising $20,000. This auction has grown over the years to include summer camps from all over, restaurants, business services, theater tickets, ski tickets, museum tickets, yoga studio passes, Youth Sport registrations, Principal for the day, fifth grade front row graduation seats, music lessons with Mr. Spano and new this year we have many teachers volunteering to have lunch with students. We had over 300 items last year, there is so much to bid on.
Have something you can donate?
We are reaching out to our Lowell families to ask if you own or work for a business that would consider donating to our auction to please get in touch with us. Years past we've had photography sessions, estate planning, restaurant gift cards, salon services and so many other fantastic items our families have generously given. Have gift cards you received as gifts? Those too would be great.

More information will be coming out on how to register to bid and all the great items we've received. This auction is open to anyone anywhere so items don't have to be limited to Watertown (we had winning bids from Arizona last year).

This is our largest fundraiser of the year. This year alone we've committed funds to teacher requests and field trips that are over $14,000 and still going, this auction makes that possible.
So what is the auction? It's an online portal that offers 100's of items solicited through the hard work of many PTO volunteers. Items come from local, regional and national businesses generous enough to provide us either a gift card, service or actual item. The auction itself is marketed to anyone registered on Biddingforgood.com (meaning people in CA can bid on items), so our reach is far and wide! The portal goes live tomorrow and you then have the ability to bid on the items.
How do I bid? Our auction website will be posted.
If you registered already, just sign in and view the auction, if you've never signed in before you will have to create a log in, after that you are able to view and bid.
How do I pay? Upon registration you will be asked to enter your credit card number, this year we will be only accepting paying this way. There will be a day/time to pick up items or we will mail them out. There are some larger items that will have to be picked up in person and those are listed as such on the auction website/listing.
Can I share this others? Absolutely, and please do. This is open to anyone, items will be shipped out (unless noted on the item listing) and credit card payment is the form of payment.
What items do you have? We have so many items you'll have to visit the auction to look through them all, but the categories are:

The 8th Annual Town Wide Elementary Spelling Bee is on Sunday, January 28, 2018 for grades 1-5. All of the funds generated will go directly back to the respective PTOs.
The format for this Bee is different than the popular notion of a “traditional”” spelling bee --one child standing alone on a stage in front an auditorium full of people. This Bee features teams of three children either all from the same school or, teams can be comprised of children from any of our Elementary schools. The only rule is that they must be in the same grade. The team will be given words from the spelling bank that have been selected based on grade level. The team members will work together to come up with the proper spelling and one team member will write the answer on a white board. If the team is correct, they will move to the next round. Teams are knocked out after three incorrect answers.
Registration for the spelling bee is due January 16th. The form can be downloaded here.
This is a very large event that is being run by a few people. They need help the day of the event with low effort volunteer opportunities. Please help the team out by signing up here.
It's almost time for our annual Book Fair that takes place December11-15. This week long event is our largest targeted fundraiser, with all our proceeds going directly to purchasing books and supplies for the Lowell Library. Last year we had sales close to $12,000 and the library was able to purchase hundreds of new books (we get a portion of the sales to spend). This year our goal is $13,000. Something Everyone Looks Forward To
The annual book fair is something teachers, students and parents look forward to every year. For the students, Ms. McCollum will work with each class during their regular library time to create a wish list of books they'd like. The kids will bring the lists home and adults are able to come into the fair and purchase those books and many others for gifts or just to add to their collections.
The teachers love it because they are able to fill a basket with books they'd like to add to their classroom collections. Those baskets will sit by the register, so when adults are checking out, they can browse through the teachers selection. If you'd like to purchase a book, simply take it out of the basket, add it to your pile, pay for the books, and have your child deliver it to their teacher!
The book fair is an amazing fundraiser and one that everyone in the Lowell benefits from. Teachers get books for their classrooms, children get new books to enjoy and Ms. McCollum is able to continue to add to our amazing school library!

This fair is no small endeavor, we need a lot of volunteers to make it a success. The more people we have, the quicker a lot of the setting up and breaking down goes. The work is not hard and it's certainly rewarding. So please take a look at the volunteer opportunities and consider helping so we can reach our sales goal of $13,000. To volunteer click here.
What Could I Volunteer For?
As mentioned earlier, this is a really big endeavor, many hands makes it very easy. The sales shifts are fun and the set up and dismantle super quick.
The set up will take place on 12/8 at 5pm and breaking it down will be at 8:00pm on 12/15 (after Literacy Night).
We also need volunteers to work the registers during the fair hours, this is really easy and a lot of fun. All shifts occur after school and also some evenings (see below for times).

Tuesday, 12/12: 2:15-3:30 & 6-8 pm

Friday, 12/15: 2-4 & 6-8 pm (tear down will occur at 8)

The Lowell PTO is always looking for ways that families can donate, but not spend anything extra. There are 2 great opportunities to take advantage of; AmazonSmile and Stop & Shop Rewards. Neither program requires you to purchase anything extra than you normally would and anything you do purchase the PTO will get a portion back.

The Lowell online store is back for this school year. We have some new merchandise to choose from. The hat will have Lowell embroidered on the front (not the full logo as it won't show well).

Each September the Lowell PTO hosts a "Family Movie Night". This is a great way to welcome Lowell families back to school and also meet some of our new families that have joined the school.
This is a very low key event, the PTO will serve ice cream to everyone around 6:30. Because the movie is an outdoor movie, exact start time is hard to pinpoint. Once it's dusk is when the movie will begin, and for the 15th it looks to be around 7pm.
Families are invited to bring dinner for themselves, blankets, chairs, etc to make it an enjoyable evening.
We do ask that an adult stays with a child for the entirety of the evening, this is not a drop off event.
